The problem: Big tummy, itty-bitty bikini

Look. We all have things about our bodies we aren't proud of.
But there's something particularly troubling about this silhouette. A protruding belly
that appears all the more robust, thanks to a tiny bikini bottom begs a few questions:
Does the wearer own a mirror? Has she not gone swimsuit shopping since she was 14? Does
she have misplaced pride about squeezing into a size 4?

The remedy: Get swimsuit bottoms that are skirted to counterbalance a corpulent
stomach. Better yet, go for a one-piece.

The problem: Necklaces made of thin chains
This one is going to make a lot of women peeved, but better you hear it from us than
anyone.
There was a time the embellishment was considered feminine. Now they're just passe. Or
declasse, depending on to whom you're talking.

The remedy: Note that thin chains with simple diamonds are fine. And teenagers can get
away with thin chain necklaces. The rest need to go. If you must wear jewelry, choose
something chunkier.

The problem: Jewelry worn below the neck

Shaving every hair everywhere may make you feel seductive in the bedroom, but without
a protective layer of hair, shaving can make your anatomy ridiculously visible in a

Sexy? Hardly. Rather, totally skanky.

The remedy: Don't leave your silhouette down there up to chance. Don your bathing suit
and step into the shower long before you get near a pool. If far too much is apparent, get
a new swimsuit with a thicker gusset or, in a pinch, lay down an ultra thin panty liner.
Just remember, there's a reason why they call them your privates.

The problem: Pierced navel
Ok, I'm just gonna say it. Your pierced navel is so not-hot. It was a novelty in the
early 1990s, but not now that every 13-year-old with a remiss mom has one.

The remedy: Sadly, there is no easy, permanent remedy. If you remove the jewelry, the
skin will likely sag and the hole will be prominent, as it probably has darkened. Some
doctors punch out the hole and stitch the sides together, but then there's the issue of a
scar left behind.
Opt for a one-piece swimsuit. And if you go for the bikini, don't call attention to
your navel with shiny jewelry.

The problem: Low hanging fruit
Again, we hate to have to point this out. But some of you make us.
Those string bikinis aren't doing the job. If you are over 40 and don't have a
surgically enhanced bosom, do not flaunt what gravity has wrought. You look, well, spent.
Classy, it ain't.

The remedy: Get a bathing suit with underwire, more structure or a higher neckline. You can't heave the girls skyward without the right cables.

The problem: Thick black platform mules, circa 2001
Yes, they're comfortable. Yes, they've been your buddies for years. Yes, you throw them
on so you don't have to think about shoes.
No, you should never wear these again. And certainly not to the pool.

The remedy: You know what you need to do. Get some bright colored flip-flops or invest

Yes, it is possible to get one...at a price. I do not know of any patterns. You would have to scour the web to find something similar. I do custom crochet work and design swimwear. I can do this, but I do not use a pattern.

I assume your reluctance to use the non-chlorine bleach (usually called color safe bleach on the boxes) is out of fear of damaging the garment. You must consider that a swimsuit is designed to go swimming, and swimming pools usually contain chlorine. This is the principle ingredient in regular bleach and is pretty aggressive.

Also, garments sold in the US must meet certain standards for use and care, which include having a label with care instructions and standing up to those care instructions. If the label says use non-chlorine bleach, then you should have no reservations about doing so.

My bigger concern is why the yellowing to being with. If the suit is older, then this can be expected, and may not be reversible. If the suit is new, however, this seems to me to be a manufacturing defect and you may want to consider returning it for a refund. A reputable drycleaner or the International Fabricate Institute might also be helpful to you in this case.

As to your specific situation, I can only think of two possible explanations:

A sun/heat reaction to suntan oils or other personal care items. A suit not manufactured to US standards.

I would try a machine washing of the suit to see what you get. It does not sound to me like you will get a lot of improvement, but it is worth a try.

Your caution about using bleach is warranted. Typically, chlorine bleach is to be avoided on nylon, spandex, etc., common fabrics for swimsuits. However, in your case, it may be the only thing left to try. What does the care label say?

I'm assuming that the suit was sold via a US retail outlet? If so, you can probably rule out the manufacturing quality issue, but not with complete certainty. It might be worth your time to stop in and ask the store where you bought the suit if they have had any other issues.

It is possible that you have a color bleed from the lining, even though it is a different color. Many dyes experience pigment changes over time, when they bleed, or even as a result of a reaction from some catalyst (heat, light, perfume, chemicals, salt, - could be a lot of things). But again, for this to be the case, then there would have to be a manufacturing fault.

You might also try taking the suit to a reputable drycleaner, or avail yourself of the "Ask an Expert" utility on the International Fabricate Institute. They may have more technical knowledge from the fabric standpoint than I do.

You bet I've got an idea. RIT (the dye people) have several products to keep things white. The type you would want would depend on the fabric content of your suit. So find that on the label (probably nylon, lyre and spandex) and find the right type for your suit. Follow directions and you'll keep it white! It's always good to wash and rinse your suit after each use.

Just while you're showering wash and rinse the suit. If you want to keep it in really good chap and keep the chlorine in check, make a solution of water, cheap laundry soap and aquarium de-chlorinator (this is gotten at pet stores-get a small bottle and add about 2 tsp. to a 8-12 oz bottle with the water and soap).

You’ve bought some nice leather lingerie, so now how do you care for it? Leather, being skin, needs to have proper care just as your own skin does. By taking some simple steps, your leather lingerie should last for many years to come.

The first step in caring for your leather lingerie is proper handling and storage. Always store leather in a temperature stable environment, neither too hot or cold, as this will affect the life of the leather by drying out the oils in the hide. Avoid exposing your leather garments to high heat or direct sunlight for long periods of time for the reasons just mentioned. Also, do not store your leather lingerie in high humidity, damp areas or plastic bags, as the build-up of moisture can cause mildew (mold) to form, which is difficult to clean. Either hang leather garments on wooden or padded hangers or carefully fold them to avoid creases and wrinkles. Perfumes or deodorants should be applied and allowed to dry before putting on your leather lingerie to minimize alcohol and other chemicals contact with the leather and to help avoid staining. Perspiration or any perfume and/or deodorant should be wiped off as soon as possible with a damp sponge, then the leather should be allowed to dry naturally.

Unless your leather lingerie acquires serious stains, necessitating professional cleaning, you can clean your leather garments yourself. An excellent cleaner is “Murphy’s Oil Soap”, which works wonderfully and is gentle on leather, due to it being ph balanced. To clean, work up a lather of the Murphy’s with a damp sponge and rub gently into the leather, paying more attention to heavier soiled areas. Then rinse the sponge well and wipe the leather clean with the damp sponge. You may have to repeat the process in areas that are more soiled. Try not to get the leather too wet, as that may cause it to shrink when it dries. One thing you may notice while cleaning is some lifting of the dye – this is normal and is simply excess dye. It should not affect the color of the garment. Allow the leather to air dry thoroughly, away from heat or sunlight for about 24 hrs. After that time, the leather may feel a bit stiff and will require a light coating of leather conditioner. One of the best leather conditioners is “Passier Lederbalsam”. It’s easy to apply (a finger works best!) and is specially formulated for fine leather goods – it also won’t rot the stitching. Never use neatsfoot, mink or other like oils as they will make the leather over-oily and weak, inviting mildew to set in. Apply a thin coating of the Lederbalsam to the leather and let it sit for several hours to allow the absorption of the conditioner. Wipe off any excess with a clean, dry soft cloth and you’re done. It would be best to allow the leather to sit until the next day before use to make sure all the conditioner has soaked in and the leather is “dry”.

For cleaning of leather lingerie that has fabric incorporated into the design, you can clean the garment by gently hand-washing it in cold water using “Pepede”. “Pepede” is specially formulated for this purpose and is designed to not only clean the fabric and leather, but also not strip the leather of its essential oils. After gently rinsing, lay the wet garment on a clean, dry terrycloth towel, roll it up, then press to squeeze the water out of the garment. Never try to wring the water out of the leather!! You’ll probably need several towels to press as much of the moisture out of the leather as possible. Since you’ve gotten the leather soaked, the leather will have a tendency to shrink as it dries. The best way to avoid this is to wear the garment as it dries (you don’t have to put it on while it’s still quite wet, just while it’s still damp). After drying if the leather feels stiff, follow the instructions previously given to condition the leather. Never use a washer and dryer to clean leather. Also, leather shouldn’t be dry-cleaned as the chemicals used cause the leather to dry out and crack.

These care instructions apply to all top grain (smooth surface) leather goods. Suede would be handled and stored the same way, but not cleaned and conditioned. Suede requires different cleaning methods not covered in this article. Patent leather is cared for the same way as top grain leather, but doesn’t require conditioning due to the lacquer that is used to seal it and give it the glossy look.

The first style of lingerie has been traced back to ancient Rome and Greece. This type of lingerie was seen as a corset. However, the corset was used only to push up the women’s breasts so that they could be seen outside of their dresses completely. After this particular stage of lingerie faded out as a fashion, lingerie became a focus of support.

The two main areas that lingerie focused on for support is the bust and the buttocks. The silhouette was one of the fashions that were used in order to expose both of these areas to the fullest by adding support. Corsets and bells were used to define and bring out these specific areas of a woman’s figure, especially during the Middle Ages. The evolution of this continued into the Renaissance, where things such as padded silhouettes for support and cones to shape the breasts came into style. It was during this time that the corset became popular to make the abdomen flat and the busts big. Women began to use whale bone in order to make the corset tighter around their abdomen. This was to the point of breaking ribs in their body.

It wasn’t until the eighteenth century that the flattery of the corset became something that wasn’t as harsh to a woman’s body. Instead of focusing on the corset for breasts, exotic lingerie began to focus on hoops that would go over the waist in order to make it smaller. The S-silhouette also came into play, which allowed women to have an exaggerated buttocks, small waist and large breasts.

The end of the nineteenth century divided exotic lingerie into two categories. One held corsets in order to support the figure of the breasts while stockings, held up by garters and suspenders helped to create a different look for the buttocks. It was the beginning of the twentieth century when industrialization became more popular that corsets began to go completely out of style. In 1913, the first bra was invented by Mary Phelps Jacob by tying two handkerchiefs together with a string. This was softer and more comfortable than a corset and allowed for women to be comfortable while working in factories.

The Roaring Twenties twisted the entire figure of women, moving to an attractive look by having a flat chest and straight hips. Chemise and bloomers were invented in order to stay light and loose-fitting on women, allowing them to look small and flat. However, it was only one decade later that the figure was back in style. In the 1930s, the first form of elastic was also invented, making it easier for women to keep a sexier look with exotic lingerie, while not having to suffer from things such as tight fitting corsets.

In the 1970s, women began to wear less and expose more. The mini-skirts were a popular way to do this. It was with this change in fashion that it was also required to change what women were wearing underneath, which pulled for the invention of the bikini strap underwear, and eventually led to the wearing of thongs. Today, lingerie is a popular and comfortable way of achieving the look that is desired with the breasts and the buttocks. New inventions and ways for the right support are continuously coming into style to help women achieve the best look.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer found in women, and this year alone 192,000 new cases will be diagnosed in the U.S. It eventually strikes one out of every eight American women. Breast cancer also causes more deaths than any other form of cancer in women under age 55.

As women, we all fear breast cancer. It is the one disease that sends chills down our spines and puts a knot in our stomachs. I am not about to go over all the reasons why women get breast cancer or who is or isn't a high risk factor. I will leave that subject to those who are far more qualified than I, however, there is one factor that affects your breast health and that is the fit of your bra.

Right now, as you read this, 80% of all the women in America are wearing the wrong size bra. Most of them are uncomfortable and most of them are too small. Your breast is all about circulation and the flow of lymph. If you want healthy breasts, follow a regular care program, including a monthly self exam, routine visits with your doctor, and a mammogram when recommended for your age and family history, Most importantly, wear a bra that fits you.

A tight, binding, constricting, and ill fitting bra is bad for you and can cause major discomfort as well as retarding the circulation in and around your breast. So what can you do to change that? Find a bra that fits you perfectly.

This process is very simple but requires the help of an "expert". When I was growing up in Brooklyn, New York, my mother use to call them the "brassier ladies”. They were mostly European born and had worked in corset shops in Europe as fitters or seamstresses. This noble group of women worked in neighborhood lingerie shops. You never bought a bra without their expertise.

They had such a trained eye that the minute any woman walked in the door they knew what size she was. They would take one look and say, "34C". It was like radar, they just knew from afar, and when they measured you, they were almost always right.

Today there is a more modern version of these women called lingerie fitters. They are in local shops (if your town is lucky to have one), or work in major department stores in the lingerie department. So your first step to finding the right bra is to go see one of these gals. They will take your measurements, first under your rib cage and all around your back and then across your breast. One tells what your bra size is (34, 36, 38 etc.) and the other tells your cup size (A, B, C, D etc.) Now that you know this they will usually recommend a style for your body type based on your needs. During your session, tell this person all about your basic wardrobe. Are you looking for a bra to wear under a tee shirt or a knit, one for sports or the gym, or a special occasion look? Or do you need to establish a basic bra wardrobe?

Believe me, one hour spent with one of these experts will not only save you money in the long run (by avoiding having a drawer full of ill-fitting bras you can no longer wear), but you will be saved the daily agonies of wearing bras that hurt, are too tight, dig into your shoulders or are just plain torture!

Once you have established your size and needs, then follow these simple suggestions for a long and comfy relationship with your bras.

HOW TO PUT ON A BRA

Bend forward, put the bra on, and fasten.

Look at the fit and make sure that the cup holds all of your breast. If you are spilling out, it is too small. If you have "overhang" it is too small.

Next, take your right hand and smooth the skin of the left breast into the cup. Do the same on the other side.

Stand up straight and see how the straps fit and feel. They should be comfortable without feeling like a vice. Adjust as needed until perfect.

Now, look straight ahead into a mirror and make certain that each nipple is in the CENTER of each cup.

Adjust the back of the bra so it lies smoothly between your shoulder blades.

Take a deep breathe, how does it feel?

A word about brand names. Not every manufacturer cuts the same way, that is true of bras as well as clothes. You might be a size 34C in one brand but a 34D in another. And there may be some brands you can't wear at all.

BRA DO's & DON'TS –

Do get measured again every time you lose or gain weight, after a pregnancy, or if you are on hormone replacement therapy.

Don't ever buy a bar without trying it on and stay away from the sale rack.
Unless there is a brand and style there that you wear, pulling one off the rack because it is marked down is no bargain. Chances are it will have a long and happy life in your lingerie drawer.

Do buy an under wire style if you are full breasted and need firmer support.

Do buy a minimizer if you want to have a large breast appear smaller.

Do try one of the new soft cup bras that offer construction for a smaller breast. (Soft cup means sans under wire.)

Do throw away any and all bras that hurt you or are uncomfortable, no matter how much you paid for them.

Important points to remember
Ask a salesperson to measure you but let your eye and your body be the ultimate test. A bra shouldn't ride up, dig into your back, or slip off your shoulders.

When trying on a bra in a store, take several, in various sizes, into the fitting room. The difference between a 34 and 36 might be one hook.

For the best fit, your bra should be fastened with the middle hook.

Reevaluate your bra wardrobe at the beginning of every season.

If you find a bra that you love, by all means buy more than one.

Never put a bra in the dryer.

It’s that time of year when we pack up our bags and head to the beach for the day to enjoy those warm sunrays and the refreshing sound of the lapping water.

So what constitutes a good beach wardrobe. Well there are certain essentials that none of us forget. On goes the swimsuit and bathing suit cover, flip flops on our feet. Beach bag has been packed with the essentials – sunglasses, floppy hat, towel and a good book. Great – got the basics covered but what about the rest.

So if we are so prepared for a day at the beach, why is it by the time we get home we look pretty worn. Here are some helpful tips to make your day at the beach fun and keep you looking fashion fresh all day and all the way home.

First before you leave home, if you’ve got long hair pull it into a high pony tail or fun knot. Use some funky hair accessories that will stay in place when you’re swimming. Try a fun colored bobble or some firm fastening clips in bright summer colors. If you pull your hair up your neck will stay cool and you’ll look fresh all day with your neat hairdo.

Second slather yourself in sunscreen before leaving the house, then toss the sunscreen in your bag so you can reapply after a swim or every few hours. A sunburn is not only unhealthy and painful, it’s unattractive, so don’t let yourself turn into the lobster of the day. Your sunscreen should be a SPF of 15. It doesn’t hurt to use a strong SPF on your face or your entire body if you burn easily.

Your beach bag should be large enough to hold your supplies for the day. Why not get something fun and fashionable to keep you looking fashion fresh. Make sure you’ve got all the daily essentials in your bag – sunglasses, sunscreen, a good book, a floppy hat, some lip gloss, and any other makeup touch ups you’ll want. If you plan to wear eye makeup make sure it’s waterproof. Stay away from heavy foundations. If you must apply something use a bronzer moisturizer. It’s also a good idea to bring lip balm with an SPF15 to protect your lips. It never hurts to put some moisturizer in the bag. Include a snack and plenty of fluids. It’s important not to get dehydrated.

Okay great we’ve got the basics covered now what about the wardrobe basics? If you’re planning to wear a swimsuit it’s usually easiest to put it on at home, that way you’re not chasing down change rooms. So great – first on goes the swimsuit. Now what to wear for a cover? Well you’ve got plenty of choices. A tank top and shorts, tank and skort, or a nice light cotton dress all work well over top. Choose something that’s easy to put on and take off, and choose fabrics that breathe to keep you cool. I also suggest including a long sleeved cotton blouse just incase you start to burn you can protect your shoulders and arms.

If you’re planning on heading out later in the day without returning home you might want to toss a pair of jeans or long skirt into your bag. If your outing is going to extend into the evening you’ll want to include a sweater for the cooler evening air. If you’re worried about your evening wear getting sandy or wet at the beach, then place them in a separate bag and leave them in the trunk of your car. That way you are guaranteed they’ll remain fresh.

My favorite beach look is this. And what’s perfect is it keeps me looking fashion fresh throughout the day and takes me right into the evening. First I like a swimsuit that’s got lots of support and is bright and cheerful. I throw a fitted tank on top and throw on a loose flouncy long skirt. The long skirt serves me through the evening and also works great to cover up if I’m starting to burn. I choose a lightweight material in a darker color with a pattern that accents the colors in my swimsuit. Flip flops are my footwear. Depending on where I’m heading after the beach I choose either a basic pair or one of my funky pair with rhinestones or crystals. Easy to walk in, feet breath, and terrific for an evening out. I keep a fitted light weight sweater in my car, and take a long sleeved cotton blouse down to the beach. I usually choose a long sleeved and long length blouse because it’s versatile. I can knot it to create a short blouse, wear it long as a beach cover, and put it on if I start to burn on my upper body. I usually choose white or a soft pastel depending on my other colors. I like white because it’s cool to wear and refreshing to look at. Every year I buy a fun new beach tote that’s big enough for the beach but not too big as to take it with me for an evening out. I like a fun bag that’s full of character.

Since I always feel naked without my jewelry I wear fashion jewelry to the beach. That way should I loose something I won’t be out a lot of money and I won’t feel so bad. I like to keep the earrings simple and elegant. I may or may not wear a necklace. Often I’ll toss a funky wood necklace in the bag to add to the evening outfit. I like to wear a couple of fashion rings just to add the finishing touches. Now if you’re fussy about tan lines you’ll probably want to forgo the rings. I toss my watch in the bottom of my bag so I can put it on later.

That’s it – simple is the key. Keep your beach wardrobe choices simple but fashionable. Think ahead so you can go from beach to an evening out without hassle. Remember to always make your fashion statement!

Is Sex Safe During Pregnancy?

Sex is safe during pregnancy provided you have a low risk pregnancy with few complications. Your doctor will let you know if you should avoid sex for any reason at all. Most women can enjoy a healthy and fulfilling intimate relationship throughout their pregnancy, right up until their delivery date.

Will I Enjoy Sex During Pregnancy?

Surprisingly, many women find that they are more sexually aroused during their second trimester than they were prior to pregnancy. The increased blood flow to the vaginal and a woman’s growing bosom often results in a heightened sense of self and sexual arousal.

Most women will shy away from sexual relations during their first trimester when morning sickness and fatigue often get in the way of love making. During the third trimester, some women find themselves uncomfortably large and prefer not to be intimate, whereas others continue having intercourse right up until they go into labor.

Some men have a difficult time being intimate with their wives even when they recognize that they will not harm the baby, because they feel another presence is in the room.

That said, many men and women have remarkable sexual relationships throughout their pregnancy. Even if you do not engage in intercourse with your husband, it is important that the two of you work on nurturing your relationship throughout your pregnancy. Foot rubs, kissing, back rubs and holding hands are all excellent ways to share some intimacy without actually engaging in intercourse.

The best way you can ensure that you and your partner remain close during your pregnancy is to check in with your partner on occasion. Inform them of your needs, let them know where you are coming from and what you need or want from them.

Positioning

If you and your partner are interested in maintaining a healthy sexual relationship during pregnancy, then undoubtedly you must be wondering what positions will work best for you as your belly grows and expands. The best thing you can do during your pregnancy is keep an open mind and be creative. Most women will find that it is uncomfortable to enjoy sex in a missionary position after about the first or mid second trimester. Try flipping over, woman on top and even lying next to one another during your pregnancy.

Studies have shown that up to, and perhaps even more than, 70% of women are wearing the wrong size bra. Some women have never been properly measured, others have been buying the same size bra for many years (and many dress sizes!) after their last measurement.

The size which suits you now is unlikely to be the size which suits you forever. It's no secret that a woman's bust size changes over time due to natural variations such as weight gain/loss, pregnancy, menstrual cycle etc. In addition, even the most expensive bras do not remain the same size and are to be expected to stretch by as much as 4 inches after a few washes and with wear.

In addition, the right size for you from one manufacturer may not be the same for all brands. You may be a 34D from brand A and a 32C from brand B...and somewhere inbetween for brand C!

Symptoms Of A Poorly Fitting Bra

1) Back, Neck and/or Shoulder Pain

Lack of support from a bra which is either too big or otherwise doesn't offer enough support can cause pain and muscle tension in the upper body area particularly amongst larger chested ladies. Badly fitting bras have even been attributed to being a cause of headache amongst women as well.

2) Chaffing and Scratching

A bra should fit snugly and not slip or ride up at the back. A bra which is too large can rub and cause chaffing and irritation to the skin.

3) Red Marks and 'Digging In'

The symptom of a bra which is too small are the ugly red marks and signs of digging in it leaves behind after you remove it.

4) Bumps and Bulges

If you are bulging out over the top, bottom or side of your bra than you probably need a larger cup size as this is a tell tale sign your bra is too small.

5) Prominent Center Panel

The section between the cups at the front of the bra should lay flat against your body. It it does not, then you've got the wrong size.

You can get this done professionally at most lingerie stores, or you do it yourself from home if you have a tape measure and know where to measure (there are plenty of pictoral measuring guides online).
